Legge Locks

About Legge locks

Legge locks and latches are produced by Allegion, an established leader in providing high level security solutions for use in private and commercial applications. The company started in 2013 as a spin-off of Ingersoll Rand and manufactures 27 different brands of security products. Legge provides a wide variety of security solutions suitable for any budget or need.

Legge Locks Design

The brand’s products are constructed with contemporary and period designs to provide a variety much appreciated by our clients in London.  Legge’s lever locks consist of mortise locks that have been designed to provide dimensional coordination in three lever security options. The Legge product range also features non-modular two level locks, and tubular latches which may or may not come with a privacy lock. Other products included in the range are surface mounted rim locks, surface mounted night latches, and a wide array of latches and bathrooms locks.

The Legge 707 and 727 deadlocking nightlatch come with a 5 Pin rim cylinder with the deadlocking feature making it possible to use the snib from the inside and the key on the outside. While each lock is made with 3 keys, the snib feature has been designed to allow the latch to be held back. Many of Legge’s deadbolts are solid hardened steel and have their keyholes protected by an internal curtain.

What is the History of Legge Locks?

In 1881, Joseph Legge started Legge Locks in Willenhall, where he started to manufacture cabinet locks. Over time, he added a full range of cylinder, cabinet, mortise, and rim locks. After Mr Legge acquired Joseph Collett & Co. in 1888, he expanded his business and eventually set up foundries for malleable iron and brass, as well as a plating shop.

By 1914, the firm had 250 employees and Legge products were being sold in New Zealand, Australia, India, and South Africa.

How Much do Legge Locks Cost in London?

The Legge 5 Lever Deadlock starts from £22.00 and Legge flat latches start from £6.46, with their sashlocks ranging between £16.74 and £39.77. Legge products often come with guarantees, including a lifetime guarantee for tubular latches, a three-year guarantee for night latches and rim locks, and a ten-year guarantee for platform locks.

How Secure are Legge Locks?

Many of the Legge brand’s locks comply with the British Standard BS3621level of security and anti-pick features. While our expert locksmiths in London have confirmed that the security level of Legge locks is satisfactory, each Legge lock would normally have a different security level based on how it’s to be used. For instance, lock mechanisms such as padlocks, designed for use in simple security applications will not be and don’t need to be as advanced as high-level security doors. For security in residential applications, a high security deadlocking latch would be appropriate.
